South Florida Drug Detox
Simple Path Recovery does not run a detox unit, and we will not pretend otherwise to win a phone call. We are an outpatient addiction treatment center in Pompano Beach offering partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient care. Medical detox is a separate level of care with its own licensing and its own around the clock medical staffing.
Here is what we actually do. If you need detox, we get you placed at a licensed detox center in South Florida, stay in contact with their clinical team while you are there, and hold your seat in our treatment programs for the day you are medically cleared. Most people who call us do not yet know which level of care they need. That is normal. Sorting it out is our admissions team’s job, not yours, and one phone call starts both halves of it.
Being Straight With You About What We Do Here
Plenty of treatment centers in South Florida let a detox search land on a page that never quite says whether they provide detox. You call, you get transferred, and nobody tells you the truth until you have already handed over your insurance information. We would rather you know in the first ten seconds.
Some treatment centers in South Florida do provide detox, residential care, and outpatient programs under one roof, and for some people they are the right call. We are not one of them, and we would rather be excellent at two levels of care than mediocre at five.
What Happens When You Call Us About Detox in South Florida
You will not be routed through a third party intake service and you will not wait five days on an insurance verification. The admissions process runs through the same clinical team that would handle your treatment, and the phone is answered 24 hours a day.
Clinical Phone Assessment
One of our admissions specialists spends thirty to forty-five minutes on what you are using, how much, how long, and when you last used. Not a sales script and not a triage form.
- Withdrawal risk reviewed first
- Honest read on the right level of care
Placement and Insurance
We call a detox partner that is licensed for your situation and can take your plan. Your benefits get run while you are still on the phone, for the detox stay and for what follows it.
- Same day benefit check
- Transport coordinated where needed
Motivation & Support
Detox usually runs a handful of days. We keep in contact with your care team there and schedule your first day with us around your medical clearance, not around our calendar.
- Discharge date coordinated directly
- Admission held for PHP or IOP
What Is Medical Detox?
Medical detox is the supervised process of clearing drugs and alcohol from the body while a medical team manages the withdrawal symptoms that come with it. It is the first step for many people entering treatment for substance use disorders, and it generally moves through three phases.
Phase One: Evaluation
A medical team assesses your physical health, your mental health, what you have been using, and how much. This usually includes bloodwork and a screening for co-occurring disorders such as depression or anxiety, because addiction and mental health rarely travel alone.
Phase Two: Stabilization
The core of the stay. Medication where clinically indicated, round the clock monitoring, and support while your body adjusts to the absence of the substance. This is the phase people picture when they think of a detox center.
Phase Three: Transition to Treatment
Detox ends with a plan, not just a discharge. A good detox center connects you to the next level of care before you walk out the door, because the days immediately after detox are when relapse risk is highest.
That third phase is where Simple Path enters the picture. We are the treatment side of that handoff for adults across South Florida. If you have been comparing treatment centers and are not sure whether you need a detox center, drug rehab, or both, that is exactly the question our clinical phone assessment answers.

Why Detox Has to Come Before Outpatient Treatment
Withdrawal is a medical event, not a test of willpower. Coming off alcohol addiction or a benzodiazepine dependence without supervision carries real risk, including seizures, and both are situations where a monitored setting and medication are the standard of care rather than a comfort measure. Opioid withdrawal, whether from heroin, fentanyl, or prescription drugs, is rarely life threatening on its own, but it is severe enough that most people cannot sit through it unsupported, and it is where a return to drug use most often happens. Stimulant and other forms of drug addiction carry their own withdrawal profiles, and polysubstance use complicates all of it.
An outpatient program cannot manage any of that. Our clients go home or to housing each evening, which is exactly the wrong arrangement for someone in the first seventy-two hours of withdrawal. Admitting you into IOP before you are medically stable would not be doing you a favor.
So detox comes first. Then the clinical work of treating addiction starts, and that part is what we are actually built for.
How Long Does Detox Take?
Most stays at a detox center run three to seven days, but the honest answer is that it depends on the substance, how long and how heavily the substance use has gone on, and how your body responds.
Alcohol
Acute withdrawal typically peaks within the first seventy-two hours and most medically supervised stays run three to seven days.
Opioids
Heroin, fentanyl, and prescription drugs like oxycodone commonly involve four to seven days of acute withdrawal, with lingering symptoms after.
Benzodiazepines
Usually the longest, because stopping abruptly is dangerous and a supervised taper takes time. Stays and tapers often extend beyond a week.
Stimulants
Cocaine and methamphetamine involve a shorter physical phase, though the psychological crash is real and worth supervision.
How We Choose a Detox Center South Florida Clients Can Trust
South Florida has more detox and treatment centers per square mile than almost anywhere in the country, and the quality range is wide. Some are excellent alcohol and drug rehab operations with real medical depth. Others are marketing companies with beds. The detox and rehab options South Florida offers run that entire spectrum, and finding the right rehab from the outside is genuinely hard, which is why we do not send people somewhere just because they answered the phone. Six things decide it.
- Licensing and accreditation: Licensed by the Florida Department of Children and Families, with accreditation we can verify.
- Medical capability for your substance: Alcohol, benzodiazepine, and polysubstance withdrawal need a provider equipped for it.
- Your insurance, including Tricare: A placement that leaves you with an unmanageable bill is not a placement we made well.
- Bed availability now: A partner who can take you today matters more than one who can take you Thursday.
- Distance and transport: Close enough that getting there is not the obstacle that stops you.
- Willingness to coordinate: They have to be willing to talk to us about your discharge, or the handoff falls apart.
Detox vs. Rehab: Why a Detox Center Is Not Treatment
The difference between a detox center and a rehab center is scope. Detox handles the physical dependence over a matter of days. Rehab, whether residential treatment or an outpatient program like ours, is where the actual work of addiction treatment happens over weeks and months. People searching for drug rehab and people searching for detox are often the same person a week apart.
Most people who walk into our Pompano Beach center have already lived this. They detoxed in Florida or Arizona or Pennsylvania. Some sat through thirty or sixty or ninety days of long term treatment after. They went home, and the wheels came off again.
Detox clears the substance out. It does not touch the reason you picked it up, the home environment you are going back to, or the pattern that pulled you out of recovery the last three times. That holds across substance use disorders, from alcohol to opioids to stimulants. Those are the things that decide whether this attempt at successful recovery is different, and none of them get addressed in a five day medical stay.
Getting through withdrawal is the entry fee, not the outcome. The work that changes anything starts the week after.
That is the gap we exist to close. A detox discharge with no plan attached is the single most common way drug and alcohol addiction wins the rematch, which is why we schedule your first day with us before you ever check in to detox.

Frequently Asked Questions About Detox in South Florida
Honest answers to what our admissions team gets asked most.
Does Simple Path Recovery offer detox?
No. Simple Path Recovery is a partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient program in Pompano Beach. We do not provide medical detox at our location and we do not have beds or 24-hour medical staffing. We refer clients who need detox to licensed detox centers across South Florida and coordinate the handoff back to us afterward.
What do they do at a detox facility?
A detox facility medically manages withdrawal. That means an intake assessment of your substance use history, around the clock nursing, vital sign monitoring, medication for withdrawal symptoms where indicated, screening for co-occurring mental health conditions, and discharge planning that connects you to addiction treatment afterward.
How long does someone stay in a detox center?
Commonly three to seven days, longer for benzodiazepines, shorter for some stimulants. The detox provider decides based on your substance, your use history, and how your body responds. Anyone who quotes you an exact number before assessing you is guessing.
What is the difference between a detox center and rehab?
A detox center manages the physical withdrawal over a matter of days. A rehab center picks up where detox stops, whether that is alcohol rehab, drug rehab, residential care, or outpatient programs like our PHP and IOP, and it is where the psychological and behavioral work of recovery happens over weeks and months. Detox without rehab is the most common setup for relapse.
Do I have to do detox somewhere else before I can start at Simple Path?
Only if you are not yet medically stable. Many adults who call us have already completed detox elsewhere, or their last use was long enough ago that withdrawal is no longer a concern. The clinical phone assessment sorts that out. If you do need detox first, we arrange it and schedule your admission with us around your discharge.
Will my insurance cover detox and treatment at Simple Path?
Detox and outpatient treatment are billed by two separate providers, so there are two coverage questions. We check both in the same call. Simple Path accepts most major insurance plans as an out-of-network provider and works with Tricare. What you pay depends on your specific plan, your deductible, and your out-of-network benefits. Self-pay options are available.
Can I detox at home?
Talk to a doctor before you decide that. Alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal can be medically dangerous and are not situations to manage alone. Even where withdrawal is not physically dangerous, unsupervised attempts are where most relapses happen. Call us and we will give you an honest read on what your situation needs.
Do you serve Fort Lauderdale and the rest of Broward County?
Yes. Our Pompano Beach location sits minutes from Fort Lauderdale, and our treatment programs, including the partial hospitalization program and IOP, serve adults for outpatient addiction treatment across Broward County, Palm Beach County, and greater South Florida. Detox placements are made across the same footprint.
